 General Cleaning
To freshen your bathroom or kitchen drain, pour 1/4 to 1/2 box of baking soda down the drain, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Cover drain tightly for a few minutes and flush with cold water.
Clean window screens with a damp sponge covered with old nylons.
To clean paddle fans place an old pillowcase over each blade as you clean it to collect the dust as you pull the pillowcase off.
Get rid of anything you don’t regularly use that is on vertical surfaces. If you can’t see the surface you can’t clean it.
House Cleaning – Fast and Efficient
Stock your cleaning bucket with everything you need to clean your home. Take your bucket to each room as you clean so you always have whatever you need for the job. Our cleaning buckets contain Affordable Cleaning All-Purpose Spray, Affordable Cleaning Gentle Scrub Cleanser, Affordable Cleaning Oil Polish, a micro-fiber cloth (for windows, mirrors and shining), a small scrubbing brush (you can use an old toothbrush), rags, gloves, stainless steel pads, sponges and a feather duster.
Work from the ceiling to the floor.
Clean by product in each area. For instance, in the kitchen, clean everything suited to your All-Purpose Spray, next move to your micro-fiber cloth, and so on.
A damp cloth is the best dusting tool you can use.
Feather dusters are excellent for getting to high corners and light
Bath and Kitchen Cleaning Tips
Keep the toilet bowl ring-free by pouring a half-gallon of white vinegar in it once a month. Let it soak overnight before flushing.
For immediate air freshener anywhere in the house, place a fabric softener sheet in the heating vent; it circulates the scent throughout the room. Or, add a dab of fragrance on a light bulb. When the light is on, the heat releases the aroma.
Scrub glass shower doors with Affordable Cleaning’ Gentle Scrub Cleanser on a dampened sponge and then rinse to remove soap residue.
Use equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle as a daily shower rinse to prevent mildew and soap scum build-up on walls, doors and curtains.
Affordable Cleaning Oil Polish is fantastic on wood and can also be use to shine and help maintain leather furniture (not suede).
To get a great, lasting shine on your stainless steel, use Affordable Cleanings Oil Polish, going with the “grain” of your stainless steel.
Use a wet stainless steel pad (we like SOS pads) to clean your stove top and drip pans.
Clean your coffee maker with one cup vinegar and the rest water, finish with two runs of water to clean out sediment and oils. Your coffee really will taste better.
Microwave cleaning will be faster and easier if you heat a bowl of lemon juice and water to steaming in the microwave. Food will loosen making it easier to clean. Smells great too!
Problem Solving
To remove black heel marks on your floors, use a pencil eraser.
To remove wax from horizontal surfaces, use a driver’s license or credit card to safely scrape away wax.
To remove wax from an uneven vertical surface you’ll need facial tissue and an iron. With your iron on low, place the tissue between the wall and the iron. As the wax heats it will transfer to the tissue. Replace tissue as wax builds up or if it turns brown from heat.
For dark stains like rust on your porcelain, rub with a paste of borax and lemon juice.
To remove water spots on stainless steel, rub area with a clean, soft cloth dampened with white vinegar. Wipe dry to avoid spots.
To remove carpet stains, spot clean with white vinegar. Do not use vinegar on mustard or blood as it will set the stain.
